Meet Report

6th to 8th August 2010 - The Cabin, Laggan

An oversubscribed meet at the small and cosy JMCS "Cabin" near Laggan.  Despite only having 10 bunks, the rest of the of the hut was surprisingly spacious and well equipped, and nowhere near as big a trek in from the road as we'd been led to believe.  Incredibly, the handful of parking spaces was just sufficient.  Kenny arrived by cycling over The Gaick, receiving a good soaking on the way.

Despite an uninspiring start to Saturday (low grey cloud), conditions improved steadily through the morning.  Penny and Tim ticked another 3 Munros off their lists with a round of the Creag Pitridh hills, while Ian, Gillian, Kate were joined by a daytripping AllanS for a much longer expedition to traverse Beinn Eibhinn, Aonach Beag and Geal Charn.  There was no lingering on the walk-ins; stopping for more than a few seconds guaranteed instant attention from the swarming midges.  Chris and Alison bagged an easy Graham, then went climbing at Kingussie Crag.  FionaR was following her physiotherapist's advice and restricted herself to cycling and swimming.

With better weather Sunday, climbers headed in to Binnein Shaus; Chris and Tim opting for the classic Ardverikie Wall and Kenny and Alison on another route (Kubla Khan?).  Fortunately there was just enough wind to keep the midges at bay.  Penny made still more Munro-ticking progress on Beinn Teallach and Beinn a'Chaorainn, Ian and Gillian conquered the mighty Sow of Athol and FionaR got sunburned watching Mike gliding with the Cairngorm Gliding Club in Glen Feshie.
