Meet Report

1st to 3rd April 2011 - Raeburns, Laggan

An inauspicious buid-up to this meet, with confusion over the number of places we had booked in the hut and the keys getting lost in the post, but all went well in the end. A smaller contingent than on most club weekends - just 10 of us in the hut, plus Allan S based at The Pottery. The hut is very well kitted out and spacious for this size of group, so an excellent base.

Much rain fell during Friday night and continued until about 10am saturday, so the majority opted for a late start. Those bucking this trend, starting very early and getting back late, were Kate, Allan and Ian. They had been thwarted by Monadh Mor when attempting it from Linn of Dee some weeks before, but were successful this time, approaching from Glen Feshie. However, they were obliged to make a lengthy detour on the return leg, due to changing snow conditions.  Meanwhile, the later starters all enjoyed mostly fine conditions. Sara, Pete and Rebecca bagged 2 Munros in the Creag Meagaidh massif - Carn Liath and Stob Poite Coire Adair. David  climbed the 3 Carn Dearg's of Glen Roy without seeing a soul. Anne and Martin did A'Chailleach + a Graham in the Monadh Liath. Last and least, Kenny and Alison wandered up a small hill behind the hut.

On Sunday, Kate, Allan and Ian, exhausted by the rigours of their day on Monadh Mor, heading to a coffee shop in Blair Atholl for the morning.  Alison, Kenny, Martin and Anne met up with Fiona M in Aviemore to climb on Cairngorm's Coire an t'sneachda. They had hoped to do a more testing climb, but had to settle for the grade 1 gullies central and crotched. Sara, Pete and Rebecca headed up Geal Charn in the Monadh Liath. They experienced adverse weather on the way up, but it cleared up nicely at the summit, making for a pleasant walk down.
